what e8st is
e8st is a darkroom that fits in a pocket. you pick a colour grade and a lens, and your photo comes out looking like a frame from a film instead of a phone shot. it runs in the browser and as a native app on iOS and Android.
every pixel is processed on your device. nothing is uploaded, nothing is queued on a server, nothing waits on a connection.
why it exists
the film look has been locked behind desktop suites, paid LUT packs, and tutorials for a long time. the tools are capable and slow, and most people never get past the first panel.
the phone in your hand already captured the frame. it can finish it too. e8st is the shortest path between the photo you took and the photo you meant to take: two wheels, a frame, done.
the grades and lenses aren't filters stacked on a slider. each one is a full grading pipeline, with real optical behaviour on top, rendered in a single pass.

keep the whole thing on the device
no upload, no queue, no account required to grade a photo. every new feature has to survive that constraint or it doesn't ship.

21 grades and 15 lenses today. new ones get added when they do something the existing set can't, not to pad a number.

e8st already reads your photo on import and reaches for the lens that suits the shot. next: better handling of groups, interiors, and food.

two wheels, one frame, no nested menus. the mobile app and the web editor stay the same shape.

LUT export for anyone finishing in a desktop suite, and coordinates so a look can be written down, sent, and rebuilt exactly.
